On Tuesday, August 25 at 1 pm Eastern, 12 pm Central, 11 am Mountain, and 10 am Pacific, the Hydrography Stewards Community will host a virtual panel focused on 3DHP coordination and outreach efforts by the hydrography stewardship teams in the states. Josh Greenberg and I have invited speakers from a few of the states that have active elevation derived hydrography projects for the USGS 3D Hydrography Program. The transition from the National Hydrography Dataset to 3DHP has been a challenge, and we want to hear from the states that are seeing success about what is working for them, and what they plan to do moving forward. There will be time for open discussion, and we hope that this will be a good opportunity for all of us in the State Stewardship Community to find and to share encouragement and helpful ideas.
Jenna Leveille of the National Geospatial Collaborative and Sanborn Map Company has graciously agreed to serve as the moderator. The virtual panelists are:

The Hydrography Stewards Community on the NSGIC website was started in 2022 to provide a space for anyone involved with state hydrography data planning, production, acquisition, and/or stewardship to share information and seek helpful answers. The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) was still being maintained, but its days as a living dataset were numbered. As the reality of the 3D Hydrography Program (3DHP) unfolded, some in the Community were able to pivot their planning from Elevation-Derived Hydrography (EDH) for the NHD to EDH for the 3DHP with relative ease, while others found various hurdles to overcome.
The partnership between USGS and NSGIC to support the Community through this shift has provided many opportunities to learn about pilot studies, successes, and lessons learned by states coordinating their hydrography stewardship programs. There are nearly as many different approaches to coordinating state hydrography programs as there are states currently participating in acquiring Elevation-Derived Hydrography for the USGS 3D Hydrography Program.
