  • 1.  State Collaboration on Geospatial Accessibility

    Posted 2 days ago

    Hello NSGIC colleagues,

I am reaching out on behalf of the State of Montana to see if other states are interested in collaborating on geospatial accessibility, with a focus on practical Section 508 compliance and geospatial governance within the constraints of Esri software.

Montana has formed a Geospatial Accessibility Working Group with members from multiple state agencies. We are looking to learn from other states about what has worked in practice, including governance approaches, deployment strategies, and lessons learned.

Our group has already reviewed accessibility materials from Colorado and Minnesota, watched the GIS 101: Map Accessibility training from May 8, and viewed recordings from NSGIC Accessibility Working Group meetings. What we are hoping to explore next is real-world experience, including pitfalls, successes, and strategies for building and sustaining engagement across agencies.

If your state has done work in this area, or if you are interested in sharing experiences or joining a multi-state conversation, we would welcome the opportunity to connect.

Thank you, and we appreciate the ongoing work across NSGIC to advance accessible geospatial practices.

    Best regards,

    Hey,

Love the steps you all are taking toward accessibility. It sounds like a lot of the conversation you are looking to have occur during our NSGIC Accessibility Working group meetings. We have a number of states that actively participate. If you are interested in joining let us know. Our next meeting is Monday Jan 26th at 12 PM MST.

Rhode Island is interested, though I may need to find somebody from RIGIS to attend, as I am stretched as far as can be.

    Thank you,
